Konjac sponges – how to use….

These sponges are made with 100% pure Konjac plant root mixed with volcanic spring water from the Island of Jeju. The water is naturally filtered by the volcanic rocks, so is particularly mineral rich and very pure.

The Konjac plant is from the potato family and grows native in Asia. The plant is also farmed for food; the root is ground down to make very fine food grade flour. For centuries this flour has been used to make noodles, as a thickening agent in foods, and in dietary supplements for its high fibre and vitamin content.

To make the sponge, The Konjac Sponge Company use the pure food grade flour and mix it with pure volcanic filtered water, then ferment the flour, having poured the mixture into moulds. Once fermented, they steam and bake the sponges, a long process… Similar to the baking of a cake, they add the clays or bamboo charcoal just as you would raisins or cocoa powder – it’s like a fairy cake for the face…

To use your sponge simply immerse in water (they hold ten times their weight in liquid) and wipe over the face to remove dirt and makeup without the need for any additional cleansers. You can use with your normal cleanser but you only need to use a fraction of the usual amount.

The Konjac sponge is so soft and gentle; it is ideally suited for soothing and cleansing the delicate eye area. Nothing else can cleanse and exfoliate the eye socket and just under the eye in the same way. The Konjac Sponge has a soft edge that can exfoliate and brighten this area; removing dead skin cells, old make up and reducing puffiness by massaging away excess fluid.

Rinse sponge after use and hang somewhere to dry using the string attached. Do not leave to dry in the shower or anywhere damp, the sponges are biodegradable so will naturally begin to show wear and tear after 1-3 months so the drier they are kept between uses the better. You can then compost or even dig them straight into the garden or the bottom of a plant pot.
