The Nighttime Mistake That Damages Your Skin While You’re Asleep
PLUS: Learn How to Get the Real “Beauty Sleep” Your Skin Craves
Dear Health Conscious Reader,
Wouldn’t you like to wake up looking refreshed each morning, with skin that’s smoother, firmer and brighter than it was when you went to sleep the night before?
If you want to keep that healthy, youthful look as you age, it’s essential that you take a proactive approach to caring for your skin —especially your face.
After all, your skin is your body’s largest organ, and because it’s your first line of defense, it’s also where free radical damage is most apparent.
While you sleep, your body’s natural healing mechanisms spring into action to heal the damage that your skin faces on a daily basis from the sun, wind, air pollution and toxins. So it certainly makes sense to enhance this process with a night cream.
But the truth is, 99% of the night creams out there do more harm then good. They actually impede your skin’s normal nighttime rejuvenation process. Putting a thick, heavy cream on your face at night literally suffocates your skin, blocking the flow of oxygen that is vital for the metabolism and elimination of toxins from your pores.
What’s worse, many of these “anti-aging” creams are loaded with harsh chemicals that act over time to make your skin thinner, drier and more prone to fine lines and wrinkles.
Hi, my name is Joshua Corn and I’m the Editor-in-Chief of the Live in the Nownewsletter, one of the fastest growing natural health publications in the nation. My passion for natural health and healing drives me to seek the truth about consumer products and to educate people on natural alternatives that are safer and more effective.
Please keep reading, because today, I’m going to tell you the secret to repairing your skin while you sleep, so you can be healthier and look younger, safely and naturally. I’ll also tell you how to avoid wasting money on dangerous and ineffective night creams that actually accelerate the aging process.
As you sleep each night, your body uses the downtime to repair itself. Your levels of the stress hormone cortisol fall, which triggers your body to rev up production of human growth hormone (HGH), which is key for healing all of the body’s cells and tissues. HGH kicks skin rejuvenation into high gear, boosting blood flow and helping to repair and regenerate the collagen-producing cells that keep your skin smooth and tight.[1,2]
HGH production significantly declines as you get older, and clinical research shows that this decline is one of the primary contributors to the aging process. And while synthetic HGH is available as a prescription, it comes with the risk of some very serious side effects.
The best way to maximize the rejuvenating nighttime effects of HGH is to get a good night’s sleep as often as you can, while supporting your skin’s natural regeneration process. That means nourishing your skin with the targeted nutrients your skin craves.
There are plenty of “anti-aging” night creams out there that purport to do just this, but as I’ll explain in a moment, most of what they promise is just marketing hype. It goes beyond being ineffective. Many of these products are downright dangerous.

The Problem with Most Night Creams
If you’re using a moisturizer on your face at night, you have the right idea. But if you’re using the wrong kind, the damage will soon become apparent for everyone to see, and it may be irreversible.
The problem is that regular application of night creams can suffocate the skin, depriving it of vital oxygen and interfering with the skin’s natural regeneration, detoxification and moisture balancing processes.
The oils typically found in thick, heavy night creams signal the sebaceous glands to cut down on moisture production, resulting in even drier skin. Over time, the skin becomes less able to care for itself. In effect, it becomes dependent on moisturizing products just to appear “normal.”
And here’s another thing…
While you might see some noticeable effects when you first start using a night cream, they tend to mysteriously stop working before long. That’s because they rely on harsh skin-tightening chemicals, and this repeated lifting action will soon cause your skin to sag even more! These chemicals actually thin your skin, making it even more prone to dryness, wrinkles and UV-related skin damage the longer you use them.
Anywhere Near Your Face!
What’s most disturbing to me is that many night creams, even ones that are marketed as “natural”, contain a cocktail of toxic chemicals that not only accelerate skin aging, but are also absorbed into the bloodstream where they can do damage to other parts of your body. Keep in mind, your body temperature rises while you sleep, which causes your skin to absorb more ofanything it comes into contact with—great for things like antioxidants, not so great for harmful chemicals.
The #1 offender on my list is parabens, which are estrogen-mimicking chemicals used widely in skin care products as preservatives. They been linked to hormone disruption and cancers of the endocrine and reproductive systems.[7,8] Also beware of phthalates, another class of hormone-disrupting chemicals, which are often hidden in products under ingredients names such as “fragrance.” Formaldehyde, another preservative commonly found in skin care products, has been linked to skin irritation and cancer.
The bottom line is, just because a night cream — or any other skin care product for that matter — is available for sale at your local drugstore, beauty counter or even at your doctor’s office, don’t assume it’s safe to use on a regular basis. You need to check the ingredients for the “bad guys”.
The good news is that recent advances in nutritional research are showing that it really is possible to enhance your skin’s natural nighttime rejuvenation abilities and even make it look younger — without overpriced, harsh, chemical-containing night creams.
1. Fully utilize your “prime” sleep hours.
In order to get the most out of your body’s nighttime natural surge in rejuvenating HGH, you need to be sure that you’re sleeping by the time 11pm rolls around. Research has shown that skin cell regeneration almost doubles at night, peaking between 11pm and 4am. During this time, HGH increases blood flow to the skin, repairs cellular damage and regenerates the collagen-producing cells that help to maintain elasticity and tightness.[1,2]
2. Nourish your skin with antioxidants — and avoid harmful toxins!
As a result of increased body temperature and blood flow while you sleep, your skin is more receptive to the ingredients in any product you apply to it — whether they’re antioxidants or toxic chemicals. So you need to be very careful about what you put on your skin at night!
Clinical research has demonstrated that there are two standout antioxidants when it comes to repairing and rejuvenating your skin as you sleep.
Squalane is a “must-have” antioxidant for your skin. Levels of this powerful, naturally occurring antioxidant fall as we age, so replenishing it can do wonders to restore your skin’s moisture and youthful appearance. Squalane has been shown to prevent UV damage and age spots, while promoting cell growth and neutralizing
bacteria.[11,12] But be sure to use squalane derived from a plant source to ensure that it’s free of toxic contaminants.
Stabilized, lipid-soluble vitamin C, also known astetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, is also one of the best antioxidants for nighttime skin care. This cutting-edge form of vitamin C has the unique ability to thoroughly penetrate your skin to fight free radicals on a deep cellular level. Research has shown that it is significantly more absorbable and effective at fighting free radical damage and boosting collagen production than typical vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
3. Keep your skin hydrated.
While you sleep, your body loses moisture. Most of this occurs through your skin, in an evaporation process known as trans-epidermal water loss.
Even if you’re drinking the recommended 8-10 glasses of water daily to maintain healthy levels of skin cell hydration, if your cells are not absorbing and utilizing that water the way they’re supposed to, your skin may appear dry, wrinkled, saggy or blemished.
Recent breakthrough research has shown that another amazing benefit of squalane is that it can help lock in moisture. A recent double-blind study showed that applying squalane to the skin at night significantly decreased trans-epidermal water loss, while minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and improving skin elasticity and smoothness.
The science speaks for itself! In just seven days, participants experienced dramatic, visible improvements — and the results just kept getting better! By the end of the four-week study, the participants who used squalane saw skin roughness reduced by up to 46% and wrinkle visibility reduced by up to 58%!
4. Let your skin breathe!
Whatever you do, please don’t use a heavy, oil-based night cream! As I mentioned earlier, most night creams suffocate your skin and interfere with the natural regeneration, detoxification and moisture balancing processes.
Also, when you apply a thick, heavy night cream night after night, your sebaceous glands “forget” how to produce your skin’s natural oils. Eventually, your skin more or less loses the ability to regulate its moisture level, and over time, it becomes dry, lusterless and more prone to irritation.
What you want to look for is a clean, oil-free skin care formula that provides high levels of the active ingredients you want — and none of the toxic chemicals you don’t.
That I Personally Recommend
In addition to my work with Live in the Now, I’m also the CEO of Stop Aging Now, a company that has been making natural health products for nearly 20 years.
When my readers would ask me to recommend a natural, effective and affordable nighttime skin care product, I was very frustrated with how few options were actually available.
In fact, 28 out of 30 products I tested contained toxic chemicals that not only damage your skin but your overall health. And the two products that actually passed my test were absurdly expensive. One company had the nerve to charge $75 for a 1-ounce jar! That’s when I knew there had to be a better way.
I phoned my good friend David Pollock, a top expert in the field of natural skin care and author of the beauty industry exposé, Just Stop the Lies! David has over 20 years of experience developing healthy skin care products, and was doing “natural” way before it was trendy to do so. I challenged David to come up with a nighttime face serum that was safe, natural and effective. And it had to be affordable.
After years of development and testing, David helped me create a new product called NightFX™ Renewal Serum, and I’m convinced that there is no healthier or more effective nighttime skin care product out there.
Unlike thick, heavy night creams, NightFX Renewal Serum is oil-free and works with your skin to deliver the natural active ingredients that help your skin look vibrant and youthful — without interfering with your skin’s natural nighttime healing and oil-balancing mechanisms. In fact it accelerates and enhances this process.
My wife and I use NightFX Renewal Serum every night, and we both love what it does for our skin. So do my elderly parents who, in their 80s, are shocked to be seeing wrinkles rapidly fade.
Here’s what makes NightFX Renewal Serum a skin health miracle:
- NightFX Renewal Serum contains therapeutic levels of plant-based squalane, which has been shown to help keep skin cells hydrated while dramatically improving the skin’s texture and appearance, reducing roughness, fine lines and wrinkles.
- NightFX Renewal Serum is formulated with stabilized, lipid-soluble vitamin C. This rare nutrient has the unique ability to remain active while rapidly penetrating skin, delivering antioxidant protection to the deepest layers of the epidermis.
