intention vs decision – which are you ?

For some of you focusing may be easy, and hey that’s great…I’d love to hear your stories about how you focus & the tools you use to get you there and keep you there….so please comment at the end of the post.

However, for many people decision-making can be a huge challenge ! We can so easily mull over:  should I try this? or that? or wait until I have done the other? We like to believe we have made a decision to focus, but for many of us, if we are honest with ourselves, what we have done is simply had the intention to focus and see how we get on.

Intention and decision are two very different things……and here I would like to add the saying

‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions”

I mean this very literally as we can have the best of intentions and stay swimming in our own discomfort indefinitely until we decide on something different……

Now having good intentions is a lovely thing and it is easy to lull ourselves into believing we are ‘ok’ at any choice point because we had good intentions.

I would say good intentions are the beginning of anything. But a good intention in no way constitutes a decision. It is the decision that will bring you to a place of focus and achievement….and allow you  to get on with your journey rather than just speculating about it ;D

Let’s look at what it means to actually make a decision…

To make a decision you need to get clear about your goal and the direction you desire to go with things. Like REALLY clear – Know  your destination. Once you have the destination, all you need to do is keep asking yourself….does this take me to my destination? And if the answer is ‘yes’ you can go with it. If the answer is ‘no’ then the answer is ‘not right now’ to ANYTHING else.

Let me give you an example

If you are on a train at 2pm on a Friday afternoon and you get asked whether you can meet a friend for a catch-up cuppa at your local juice bar at 2pm on Friday, even if you  like the idea….the answer will be a resounding NO because you are on a train !

I would suggest beginning to think of your decisions as train journeys…..if you are on a train you are on a train and so the answer to anything else is NO because that train journey is your focus for that time.

Are you ready to catch your train? YOU ARE EITHER ON OR OFF….there is no right or wrong here just DECISION and the journey :D Remember you can get off at anytime, just ask yourself:  is this your destination?

I’d like to hear from you…..making 1 decision today will allow you to get on your train…and I’d love to hear  what your destination is…. share below….good luck and happy journeying :D
